The city of Los Angeles has a population of over 3,000,000 people. The Los Angeles Times has summarized all crimes that have taken place in the first 6 months of 2008 amongst the 3,000,000 or so people in Los Angeles into Violent Crimes and Theft Crimes.
Violent Crimes: Homicides, which include murder, manslaughter, involuntary manslaughter and vehicular manslaughter has risen 4.3% in Los Angeles in the first 6 months of 2008. The violent sex crime of rape has decreased 11.3%, robbery has decreased 8.6% and aggravated assault has decreased 5.7%. Therefore, Los Angeles violent crimes have decreased a total of 7.2% in the first 6 months of 2008.
Theft Crimes: Burglary is down 5%, Grand Theft Auto is down 8.2%, burglary/theft from a vehicle is down 6.9%, petty theft and grand theft is down 6.1%. Therefore, Los Angeles theft crimes have decreased a total of 6.6% in the first 6 months of 2008.
